In case you've been out shopping or just in bed sleeping off the food coma from yesterday (I would be the latter lol), the Episode VIII trailer dropped this morning and this nerd right here is in nerdvana! It's 88 seconds of pure bliss and immediately takes me back to my childhood, watching the original with my Dad. I can't wait to see it in the theater next time I go to the movies, but for now, I'll just settle for watching it a couple thousand times on YouTube.

It is no secret how much I love Supernatural. It is my favorite show and if you get me started, I could talk forever. The community of people that watch this show are like a family. And that's what we call each other, the "SPN Family." The idea that a world wide group of strangers can band together and do amazing things is one of the things that make this show so great. I went to my first convention back in September and it just increased my love for this show. Meeting the cast and hearing everyone talk about how much they care about this show and these characters was amazing. That's one of the reasons I am so proud of last night's episode. I'll admit, when I first heard that Misha and Mark were not in the 200th episode, I was more than a little upset, especially because they have grown to become my favorite characters. However, I saw a comment on tumblr that said "Of course Mark and Misha aren't in it. It's not THIER 200th episode. It's Jensen and Jared's." And I felt like it was absolutely correct. At it's core, Supernatural is about 2 brothers that drive across the country, saving people and hunting things. That's exactly what this episode was about. It was a homage to everything Sam and Dean have been through, and the emotional journey that the fans have gone through as well. It was a thank you and an acknowledgement to the fans. Robbie took his time to throw in little nods to the past 10 years and as a fan from season one, I really appreciated it. He even took some of the "fan specific" things (Destiel, Adam, the Samulet) and pretty much said "hey, we hear you." It was beautiful and I couldn't have asked for a better episode. So congrats on 10 years and 200 Episodes. I think I can sum it up in 2 simple words, "not bad." This past Saturday I took my best friend to a nice Doctor Who themed restaurant called The Pandorica, nestled on the quaint town of Beacon, NY. You may have heard of it recently, due to it being featured on several blogs and websites. My first impression when we arrived was that it was "smaller on the inside" (sorry, I couldn't resist!). With a grand total of 8 tables, it was small, but cozy. Upon arriving we were greeted by our waitress Victoria. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was this enormous painting of the exploding TARDIS. She told us to pick a table, which we did and then she simply said, "You should go to the bathroom." So I said "okkkkkaayy," and we head down the hallway to the bathroom. It was a TARDIS! After that it was time to decide on what to eat. The menu was simple enough, with 2 different offerings of fish fingers and custard (of course), as well as your standard English fare, Sheppards Pie, Bangers and Mash and the like. We both decided on cups of chili as a starter, and the meatloaf and mash as an entree. The chili was pretty good, although I'm not sure it was homemade. The mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious though. The meatloaf was ok, I could take it or leave it. We had the brownie sundae for desert, just a simple brownie with ice cream, caramel and whipped cream on top. All in all, it was a decent meal, if not more than a little pricey. The atmosphere was really nice, there was plenty of art on the walls, as well as a tv playing 10th Doctor episodes. I would definitely recommend any Whovian to go, although be prepared to spend some money.
How's that for a throwback Thursday? Source: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/305712/scitech/science/nasa-rovers-leave-phallus-on-mars Panic! At The Disco has released a new physics based time killing game, now available to download for free in the App Store and also on Google Play. All proceeds go to the Human Rights Campain, so you can kill some time and help people all at once!!! So, last weekend was NYCC and it was absolutely THE BEST weekend of my life. It was my first ComicCon so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I went all 4 days and it was extremely overwhelming, but it was so worth it! Thursday was pretty low key. I went with my best friend Sammy and her sister, and since this was her fifth con, she gave me the lay of the land and we didn't do too much. My favorite part was artists alley. I ended up buying a shitload of art and even ended up getting a commission before the con was over. The cosplay I wanted to do for Friday didn't work out, so I got up early and made a Plumbob and decided to go as a Sim and it was so much fun! I went to my first panel on Friday. The Nerdist writers panel with Ben Blacker and featuring Brian K Vaughn. It was really infomative and I learned a lot. After that, Sammy was heading across town to a Neil Gaiman panel and I decided to check out the Birdman panel with Michael Keaton and Ed Norton, moderated by CHRIS HARDWICK!!! I was soooo nervous just to be in the same room as him since I admire him so much. My plan was to ask a question about the movie and then quickly ask Chris for a selfie, but they never opened the floor to questions. However, as soon as the panel was over everyone stormed the stage to get to Chris and I think he was caught a little bit off guard at first, but he said he would stay as long as they let him. I made my way up to him and I actually got to meet him! It was so amazing! He was really nice, and when he saw that I was crying (part nerves, part excitement) he pulled me in for a second hug and told me it was ok. It was the most amazing moment. I came face to face with the man responsible for the fact that you are reading this post right now. And as I was leaving the panel room, gathering myself together, he tweeted me twice!!! After that I went home to recover and process the fact that I had just met Chris Fucking Hardwick. Then it was on to Saturday. We were backstage for the Cosplay Championship because Sammy had a photoshoot for her charity, Project You Matter (more info on that to come soon). While we were backstage we met an amazing cosplayer who built his own Groot costume. We found out that he came to the con all by himself so we offered to help, and that's how Team Groot was formed. It was so much fun helping out and Groot came in Second place!! We saw so much awesome cosplay on Saturday, including this AWESOME Star Lord (@its_just_koch on IG) But the highlight of my day was the parade of Deadpools!!! Ben and I were walking down Artists Alley when suddenly we see a wall of Deadpools coming towards us, so we joined right in! They marched to one of the artists booths and were chanting for him. Ben and I were standing behind them and then Ben yells "TURN AROUND!!!" And they do! So I jump in the middle and join the party!!! It was amazing!!! I told Sammy on Thursday that I wanted to take a picture "surrounded by Deadpools" and that's EXACTLY what I got!!! After all of the Deadpool hysteria died down, we walked around a little bit more and ended up walking past a booth playing Run DMC and I'm nodding my head like "I know this song" and I look up and guess who I see? Sunday started off with a bang!!! I had an exclusive Marvel panel to attend (thanks to my new friend Benjamin) and I got to see a clip and the trailer from Age of Ultron!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!!! It was so good we watched it 3 times!! I've never been so excited for a movie in my life!
***DISCLAIMER!!! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT I SAW, STOP READING!!!!*** The clip started with Tony, Steve, Clint, Tasha, Thor, Bruce, Agent Coulson and Hill and Rhody sitting in Tony's apartment shooting the shit. Mjölnir was sitting on the coffee table and Tony was saying that he could lift it. He tried to lift it and he couldn't. So he goes and gets an arm from one of the suits and still couldn't do it, so him and Rhody try and still nothing happens, so Tony says that Thor must have some kind of fingerprint recognition on the handle. Then Clint tries and nothing happens, next up was Bruce and he couldn't do it and let's out like a Hulk screech. Then Steve gets up and tries. He tries to pick it up and it moves a little and everyone gets quiet and Thor looks visibly shaken. Although it moves a little, he's not able to pick it up and Thor kind of relaxes. They all laugh and then something crashes through the door and we see what looks like one of Tony's suits. The trailer was so crazy and amazing and fast paced, I honestly don't remember individual pieces of it, but they have a distopian sounding version of "I Have No Strings" from Pinocchio running through the whole thing and it seriously gave me chills. It was amazing!! *** OKAY YOU CAN KEEP READING NOW*** The rest of Sunday was pretty uneventful. My other BFF Ashley came with her boyfriend, so I showed them around the con. Ashley and I went to the American Dad panel and Sir Patrick Stewart was a surprise guest panelist and it was really funny. After that we just walked around and visited some booths before calling it a day. All in all, comic con was an AMAZING experience and a fire has been lit! I have so many plans for the future of this blog and podcast. Thank you all for hanging in there and reading the blog on a regular basis. I promise I'm going to get better at posting on a more consistent basis and keeping everything up to date. And feel free to leave comments and email me! I want to hear from you guys!!! This was my second time seeing them and they were AWESOME!!!! I have loved P!ATD since 2005. I was really into Fall Out Boy and I remember Pete wearing these shirts that said "Pete! At The Disco" and how everyone was upset over this group that FOB had signed, but nobody had ever heard of. So me, being the critic that I am, looked them up, not expecting anything good at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. They were so different from anything I had ever heard. Then the video for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" came out, and I was done. I was hooked. But after all of these years, I had never seen them live. When they announced the Too Weird Tour, I remember vividly saying to myself "I WILL be at that show." Well, the tickets sold out IMMEDIATELY and my only option was Stub Hub, but after Christmas, I was wiped out, and wasn't able to buy my ticket. But on Tuesday, Ticketmaster released some last minute Day of Show tickets and I was on my way!!! I had to go alone, but I didn't care. IT'S PANIC!!!!! When I got there, the line was already halfway up the block, filled with people who had been there since early that morning. I met some nice people in line, but honestly felt EXTREMELY old, because they were all 19 or younger, but we had a nice time waiting in the freezing cold, and even let out a cheer when we hit the freezing point. (side note: my favorite conversation of the evening was when I was talking about going to the city last year to meet Benedict Cumberbatch..., Me: Yeah, I came to see Benedict Cumberbatch last year and we were standing in the middle of the street singing the Jared Padalecki song. Other girls: that's hilarious! Me: Yeah, it was cra.... One of the girl's boyfriend: Wait, what the fuck is a Jared Padalecki and why does it have a song?? Me: *laughing* He's an actor on Supernatural. It's a TV show. Boyfriend: Jared PADALECKI??? Me: I'm cracking up over how you just skipped over a name like Benedict Cumberbatch and went straight for Padalecki We all laugh and change the subject and keep talking. 5 minutes later, I'm in the middle of a sentence... Boyfriend: PADALECKI??? That cant be someone's name. I need to hear the song. Me: No you don't, it's going to get stuck in your head. They all asked me to sing it so I did. An hour later, the boyfriend starts humming the song and the girlfriend starts laughing and he's like "What..... DAMMIT!!!" LMAO) But anyway, They finally let us into the venue at around 6:20 and we started singing "I Write Sins" as we go towards the door. Soon we are inside and the room fills up pretty quickly. I knew I didn't want to be in the middle, and I wanted to be as close to Dallon as possible, because I LOOOOVVVEE him and I knew that he throws his pics into the crowd. At this point my feet were killing me, and I was ready for the show to start. The opening act was X Ambassadors.... They were pretty good! They had an Imagine Dragons feel to them, and the lead singer played the sax and drums. They said they were headlining a show in April, and I might actually go to it. They did about 3-4 songs. (WARNING: It's loud!! And I know some of it is sideways....I honestly don't know why I did that....) When X ambassadors were on, people kinda stormed the stage, and since I was about 3-4 people back from the stage, I was smooshed. It was was really hard to breathe, and I almost had an episode, but this nice girl (SHE WAS 25!!! LOL We spent the time in between the opening acts talking about how "We're too old for this shit" lol) was kind enough to help me breathe through it. And Panic!'s stage crew were handing out bottles of water. Then it was on to The Colourist, they were alright. I wasn't too impressed, but they did good. They did have a female drummer, which I thought was pretty cool. They did about 5-6 songs... AND THEN IT WAS TIME!!!!!!! THE drum set.... Dallon's mic stand and his picks.... This was when the SUPER pushing started. But at this point, I didn't even care!!!! It was absolutely AMAZING!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Brendon, but Dallon is my baby!!! After this song, there was kind of a pause, so I started a chant. "DALLON!! DALLON!! DALLON!!" He smiled and pointed at himself like "Who me?" and blew a kiss. Too adorable!!! :0) My main goal of the night was to catch at least one back flip.....and here it is!!! (I caught the other one too, but its hard to see...) The first time I heard this song, it brought tears to my eyes. It's the wedding vows that Brendon wrote for Sarah. Hearing him sing it live (WHILE SICK, MIND YOU) was beautiful.... THIS IS WHILE HE IS SICK!!!! When he was talking, you could hear it in his voice, but then he does shit like this!!! Please, tell me again how Brendon can't sing.... The show ended with Nearly Witches, they went off stage, and the obligatory chant started....."PANIC!!! PANIC!!! PANIC!!!" Finally Dallon comes out, followed by Kenneth and none other than NAKED BRENDON!!!! (Yes, I know he's not completely naked...but that's what he wore in the Girls/Girls/Boys video lol) Last song of the night....the second back flip is at the end of Pt 2. Its kinda hard to see, someone's hand was in the way... The show was INCREDIBLE!!!! They did an excellent job of mixing old and new material and making it all cohesive. They played all of my favorite songs, save for one or two, and it was awesome to see Brendon at work. He sang, played the piano/keyboard, played the guitar and drums, all while working the board and never missing a beat. They really put on a hell of a show. If you know me, you know I'm really self conscious about myself. I'm always conscious of people looking at me, or saying something and laughing at me. But for the first time in my life, I didn't care. I was jumping up and down, (YES, I SAID JUMPING!!!) nodding my head, screaming at the top of my lungs, dancing, twirling....I did it all, and I had a blast. I'm so glad I went and I'm so looking forward to the next tour, because I'll be at that one too, front and center. SET LIST:

Welcome to Fangirl Mind Meld!! This is a place where I will “let my geek flag fly” as they say. I eventually plan on starting a podcast and doing some other fun things, but let’s start small lol. I’d like to dedicate this first blog post to someone who will probably never read this. Those of you who know me, know that I’ve had a serious crush on Chris Hardwick ever since I saw him on Boy Meets World (yes, I was the person who watched Shipmates and actually enjoyed it lol). Well he has since built a Nerdist Empire on pretty much just doing things he likes to do. I completely admire that and I want to do the same thing. I want to do things that make me happy, and get paid for doing those things while I’m at it. The one constant piece of advice that Chris gives to people who are aspiring writers, bloggers, podcast runners is “Just fucking do it!” Well Chris, here I am. I’m doing it. Thanks for being such a positive inspiration :0) |
